The Otherworldly Writing Room Membership Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions govern your membership in The Otherworldly Writing Room, offered by XPLovecat, LLC and operated by Leslie Horn. In these Terms, “I,” “me,” and “my” refer to XPLovecat, LLC and Leslie Horn acting on its behalf.
By purchasing a membership, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Membership
The Otherworldly Writing Room is an asynchronous writing and coaching membership designed for writers of adult fantasy, science fiction, and horror novels.
Your membership includes:
Access to the private Slack community for writing support, questions, brainstorming, accountability, and community discussion.
The ability to ask short craft, process, and story-direction questions in Slack.
One personal developmental feedback submission per billing period of up to 2,000 words total, including any context provided.
20% off eligible 1:1 ad hoc coaching calls with Leslie. Calls are subject to availability and separate booking terms.
The membership is asynchronous. I will participate in the community regularly, but membership does not include immediate, on-demand, or 24/7 responses.
2. Monthly Feedback Submissions
Your membership includes one developmental feedback submission per billing period.
Submissions are accepted between the 1st and 15th of each month and may include up to 2,000 words total, including any context you provide.
Your submission must be used during the applicable billing period. Unused submissions expire and do not roll over into future billing periods.
Feedback is developmental and reflects my professional opinion as a book coach and editor. You remain responsible for all creative and publishing decisions relating to your work.
The membership does not include copyediting, proofreading, publishing representation, literary-agent services, or other services unless specifically stated.
3. Monthly Billing
The Otherworldly Writing Room is a monthly recurring subscription.
When you join, you authorize XPLovecat, LLC and its payment processor to charge the membership price shown at checkout and to automatically charge that amount each month until you cancel.
Your membership will continue month-to-month without requiring you to purchase it again.
I may change membership pricing in the future. If a price change will affect your existing subscription, I will notify you before the new price applies.
4. Founding Member Pricing
Some members may receive a reduced Founding Member subscription rate.
If you joined at a Founding Member rate, you will keep that rate for as long as your subscription remains continuously active.
If you cancel or otherwise end your membership and later choose to rejoin, your previous Founding Member rate will no longer apply. You will rejoin at the membership price available at that time.
Founding Member pricing cannot be transferred to another person or account.
5. Cancellation
You may cancel your membership at any time.
You can cancel:
Through your ThriveCart Customer Hub, which can be accessed through the link provided on your purchase receipt; or
By emailing me at contact@xplovecat.com and requesting cancellation.
Cancellation stops future recurring charges.
After cancellation, you will continue to have access to the membership through the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
You are responsible for canceling before your next billing date if you do not want to be charged for another month.
6. Refunds
Because membership access and services begin immediately, membership payments are nonrefundable once charged, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
Canceling your membership does not result in a prorated refund for the remainder of your current billing period. Instead, you will continue to have membership access through the end of that billing period.
7. Community Expectations
The Otherworldly Writing Room is intended to be a supportive environment for writers.
Members may not:
Harass, threaten, or abuse other members.
Engage in discriminatory behavior.
Intentionally disrupt the community.
Spam or solicit other members without permission.
Plagiarize another member’s work.
Share another member’s writing or private community discussions outside the membership without permission.
Because the membership is designed for writers of adult fantasy, science fiction, and horror, conversations and submitted fiction may include mature, disturbing, violent, sexual, or otherwise sensitive fictional material.
I may remove content or suspend or terminate a membership when reasonably necessary to protect the community or enforce these Terms.
8. Your Writing and Intellectual Property
You retain all ownership and copyright in the writing you submit.
By submitting writing to me, you give XPLovecat, LLC permission to access and use that material only as reasonably necessary to provide your membership services and feedback.
Writing shared in Slack community channels may be visible to other members. Do not post material in a community channel that you are not comfortable sharing with other members who have access to that channel.
Membership materials I provide remain the intellectual property of XPLovecat, LLC unless otherwise stated.
You may use membership materials for your own personal writing and learning. You may not copy, reproduce, publish, distribute, resell, teach from, or commercially use those materials without my written permission.
9. Privacy and Confidentiality
I will treat writing submitted privately for feedback as confidential and will not publicly share or use it for marketing purposes without your permission, except where disclosure is required by law.
Community spaces are different. Although members are required to respect one another’s privacy and intellectual property, I cannot guarantee that another member will keep information or writing shared in a community channel confidential.
Personal information collected through the membership will be handled in accordance with the XPLovecat, LLC Privacy Policy.
10. Third-Party Platforms
Parts of the membership are delivered through third-party services such as Slack, ThriveCart, and other website, payment, email, or scheduling providers.
Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms and policies.
I am not responsible for temporary outages, technical problems, account restrictions, or changes to third-party platforms that are outside my reasonable control.
11. Ending or Changing the Membership
I may suspend or terminate a member’s access for nonpayment, violation of these Terms, harassment, misuse of membership materials, or conduct that reasonably threatens the safety or functioning of the community.
If your membership is terminated because of a material violation of these Terms, you will not be entitled to a refund except where required by law.
I may also make reasonable changes to membership features, platforms, submission processes, or other logistics as the membership evolves.
If I discontinue The Otherworldly Writing Room entirely during a billing period you have already paid for and cannot reasonably provide the remaining service, I will provide an appropriate prorated refund.
12. No Guaranteed Results
I want The Otherworldly Writing Room to help you make consistent progress and become a stronger writer, but individual results vary.
I do not guarantee that participation in the membership will result in completion of a novel, publication, representation by a literary agent, book sales, income, or any other particular writing or publishing outcome.
Your results depend on many factors, including your participation, writing practice, decisions, and individual circumstances.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, XPLovecat, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from participation in the membership.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, XPLovecat, LLC’s total liability relating to your membership will not exceed the amount you paid for the membership during the three months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or remedies that cannot legally be limited or waived.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable consumer protection law requires otherwise.
15. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time as the membership evolves or legal requirements change.
If I make a material change that affects your existing membership, I will provide reasonable notice before the change takes effect.
Continued participation in the membership after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those Terms to the extent permitted by law.
